Let me start by saying congratulations to Shawn Collins (my personal friend) and Missy Ward for putting on another excellent Affiliate Summit Conference! I was excited to go this summer for a few reasons:
1. It would server as a nice 8 day family vacation, and our family’s first trip to Florida (Disney World and all).
2. I would get to meet up with several of my online marketing buddies including my webmaster that has worked for me for one year.
3. I would get to mingle with the major ad network / merchant players in the affiliate industry.
4. I would learn all of the latest happenings in the affiliate marketing sphere, much of which is very new to me.
It just so happened that I was able to do all of that which I wanted to do. I had a blast at the conference, and outside the conference we got to see a lot of neat things including Disney World.
We arrived Friday afternoon after a nice 3 hours flight out of Dallas, TX. The weather was great (although a bit humid) and our trip to the hotel was a breeze. When we arrived at the Hilton hotel on Disney property (also the location of the conference), we got unpacked and relaxed a bit. I later got a call from my friend, Dave Taylor, and we went downstairs and talked for a good while about business and the latest trends. I was off to bed after that in preparation for our trip to the beach on Saturday!
Again, Saturday was beautiful. We drove to Cocoa beach about 1 hour away and had a blast. This was our kids’ first beach experience and they loved it. After splashing, body boarding, building sand hills (not castles), and chasing crabs we were worn out and decided to call it a day.
Sunday night through Tuesday evening the conference was in full force. I took plenty of breaks to hang out with my wife and kids, went swimming often, and took the evenings to go out for dinner or over to Downtown Disney for a bit. I was able to catch up with old friends and make a few new friends at the conference which was great!
It wasn’t until Wednesday that my long time designer came down to Orlando with his family from his home in Tallahassee, Fl. We basically spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday with him and his family and had a great time doing so. We talked some business, went to Sea World, went out to eat, and just hung out. Mike and his family were great and our kids enjoying hanging out with their kids (very close in age).
I have added some pictures of our trip to the gallery, so check them out too!
