How many times have you dragged your feet on a project and either lost interest or got started too late? Did you ever consider how much money you have left on the table by not taking action a bit sooner? Are you resentful someone beat you to the punch?
I want to encourage all of the webmaster and forum admin that read this blog to be quick and to take action. I have found that speed is often one of the most important factors when it comes to having success on the web. I always push people to plan, plan, plan, but there comes a point we must take action and do something with our planning.
I have seen my good friend, Joel Comm, recently do this with 500 Words and I have seen myself do this many times in the past and now with EarnersForum.com. I spent time considering an idea, planned on how to promote it, and then jumped right in. Joel had 500 Words online within a few short days after seeing the 1000wordpage.com concept. Not only was he fast, he proved to be MUCH better. To top off the extra features and user friendliness of his site, he also had a promotion plan that took off as planned or even better than planned. It appears he will sell out all of his words and have a huge success on his hands. Shortly after seeing the success of his site, he also figured he could do quite well by selling the script he used at 500 words. What do you know? That certainly worked to and became an overnight success. Now, you can do the math as well, but the way I see it is that he made a minimum of $XX,XXX in under 2 weeks by being quick and a bit creative. What are you waiting for?
I figure if you can match a bit of speed with a bit of creativity, you can go a long way towards being another internet success story!
You’ve inspired me to finish programming the rest of my site before Monday. Should only take a couple of hours to finish it up, but I so god damn lazy
I think Joel Comm took the idea and ran and he did it well. But I also thing he should have given credit where credit was due to 1000wordpage.com .
I mean even that site gave credit the Million Dollar Homepage.
It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when people capitalize on the uniqueness of others that don’t have the relationships that some may have.
My .02
Joel’s success had to do with reach. That means having a large subscriber base and being well networked with other marketers who also own large subscriber lists. But he also recognized that the concept will be short-lived and I saw that the site selling the script was already up for sale at SitePoint.
[…] Forums are hot internet properties this year, largely thanks to Jeremy Shoemaker and Lee Dodd showing just how profitable they can be. Unfortunately they are also very tricky to start, maintain, and grow — and most barely make it past the starting line. […]
