The Google guys are up to it again with a new and interesting twist that may be coming to the Adsense program some where down the road. There are two updates that were commented by Jennifer Slegg recently.
#1 - Google Adsense is moving beyond their standard contetual ads to rich media. What is rich media you ask? Rich media refers to advertising that utilizes new technology such as Flash, Java applets, streaming video and interactivity. Google is planning to offer a beta test to a select (it seems highly select) group of Adsense publishers. The potential ramifications and possibilities here are tremendous. I can see the side that Jen commented on pertaining to the fact that this could hurt existing ad networks offering rich media, noncontextual advertising solutions being the Google has a large group of publishers to roll out this new program to. I also see the others side of this as well. Let’s say Google releases their rich media campaign and doesn’t allow other ad networks ads to be displayed on the publishers site. That could be dangerous for Google and turn publishers off who rely more heavily on CPM ads versus CPC (Adsense Contextual Ads). I do think Google is brilliant and thus they will work this out and release a strong program. The chain of events will definitely be interesting to watch. If you see any Google rich media ads displaying on a web site, let me know about it.
#2 - Google ads a 90-day cap on the Adsense referral program. This simply means that when you refer someone to the Adsense program, they must get their first check of $100 or more within the first 90 days for you as the referrer to earn your $100 pay out. Previously, there was no cap. I am not sure who is making money with this referral program, but I would be interested to see if and how this affects their income. Another interesting change in Google world my friends!
