I don’t know about you, but there is plenty of nonsense to put up within my offline life. When nonsense confronts me offline, I normally choose to smile and move on. With my forums, I decided long ago to take a different approach. Because I like to keep all of forums clean, PG-13 or better, and offer a nice atmosphere, I do not let rudeness, flaming, degrading comments, or other forms of offensive nonsense slide. People will be people, and you will have times as a forum administrator that you wish would just go away. They won’t just go away however. You must take action and when you do, please don’t worry about it. I no longer try to determine who is going to like my decision versus who isn’t. You need to make the decision you feel is right for your community, even if it means banning a member with thousands of posts or letting a staff member go because they cam against your leadership.
I used to worry about loosing one member. That really would bother me. I felt like I could please them all, or at least work my tail off trying. That isn’t the case, and I was only fooling myself. So please, let me save you countless hours of frustration and worry. Make a decision and move on…:)
